Solar Patio Lights
Most people want to enjoy their patio and what solar patio lights do is allow them to enjoy it even more. Imagine these beautiful lights coming on automatically at dusk to create an elegant glow to your patio area. Instantly you’ll have that lively atmosphere simply because you’ve added playful lighting to your patio. And the best part is that it’s one of the easiest upgrades you can do. No need to call an electrician because these solar patio lights don’t need an outlet.
All you need is an area that receives a great deal of sun everyday to fully recharge the Ni-Cad batteries that are designed in the unit. Since it is solar charged and battery operated, you use no electricity at all. One consideration on these lights is that you get a high capacity Ni-Cad battery or batteries and switch them out with the ones that come standard with the unit. Many times this is a huge upgrade that won’t cost you a lot. Because of cost considerations the manufacturer ships the solar patio lights with a cheaper Ni-Cad battery pack. This is not true on all units, however.
One way to light up a patio is to light the perimeter instead of overhead. There are some very good choices on the market of perimeter deck lighting that would work wonderfully in a patio situation as well. In fact, the deck units, because they can stand on the ground, have a bigger battery pack and higher output LED’s than most of the patio atmosphere lighting units. If you installed four or five of these around the patio, and naturally, the solar cell would need full sunlight for some hours to recharge the batteries, you would have an enjoyable patio with lighting that outlined the floor giving it that outdoors, deck look.
Another type of solar patio light is the Japanese Lantern design. Made of paper, plastic and nylon, these lights are remarkably very sturdy. The challenge is getting the collector near bright sunlight (direct) for enough hours each day. In a deck situation this is possible, however for patios, it is hard to find enough hours of unobstructed direct sunlight to make the lights work at night. In any event, once you get that part of the equation worked out, there is nothing like having the multi-colored Japanese lanterns hanging and shinning over your patio area. Talk about atmosphere.
One of the most unusual designs is a hand-blown artisan glass ball that is solar powered. This solar patio light can be strung from over hanging tree branches into your patio area. Each globe has a white extra-bright LED in it to give maximum lighting and at the same time create quite the mood with unique patterns and colors. They will come on at dusk and go all night provided that they get enough sunlight during the day. There are many options with the globes from placing them in an archway to wrapping them on a rail or an outdoor umbrella.
